Yes. the best place for a monstrous amount of snow like this is on the ground. You won't be able to see out your ground-floor windows, but you won't have water melting at the bottom of the pack, damming up, and damaging the roof, either.

Die Arbeit ist uns im Ruhrpott erspart geblieben, aNNa. Aber eigentlich würde ich ganz gerne mal wieder Schnee schaufeln.

aNNa, mir reichen unsere paar Zentimeter schon - ich blicke schon mit Sorge auf die Pegelstände und hoffe, dass sich die angekündigten Regen- und Schneemengen in Grenzen halten, Hubs

Hubs* heute ist Tauwetter +5° und der Schnee sackt zusammen die Asphaltdecke ist jetzt schwarz - jedenfalls 'auf den Hauptstrassen von Oberaudorf' ;-)) Aber der Bürgersteig ist immer noch mit einer 80cm hohen Schneebarriere zur Strasse getrennt. Der vorteil ist dass es nicht spritzt :-))

... bzw. die Spritzer die Schneekrone nicht überwinden ';-)

Wow, you have it deep there. We have seen it also on our British TV. I imagine it is dangerous up on those roofs with all that snow. I hope you are OK in it all Anna. All looks good for interesting photos though and so an opportunity for you here, as demonstrated.

Herbert* Yes I'm fine two days it's rainy and the high of the snow goes a little bit down - but now the snow is hard at icy.
But there are other regiosn they are more affected

Thanks for this Anna, it makes for very interesting viewing that we very seldom see in Britain. I presume that you are in zone 3? so they make the roofs stronger in your region? The ice will be heavy too and very slippy and so be very careful - broken bones are not good! I watched the skiing from Adelboden -held over the weekend and saw that it was raining in the village -over the snow there too. - Good luck. Herb

Herbert* yesterday and today trumahaft have nice weather blue sky and sunshine and cold

... oh, "Shovelling Off the Roof": an exciting and onerous and a somewhat dangerous task ... there is a technique to doing it: shovel steps up to the peak and then start from the top down (then a LOT of shovelling !! ) ...

It gets the weight off the roof, and like John Fitzgerald said, it avoids ice-dams which may damage the roof and do cause awful leaks on exterior walls.

I have "shovelled my roof" four times, and each time is about 10 years after the previous ... if I tried it now, my wife would probably have the rescue squad parked outside with a charged-up defibrillator, just waiting ...
