Der Stein ist ein Skolithos-Sandstein
Das ist ein Sandstein aus dem Unterkambrium mit Spurenfossilien: Skolithos (darum auch als Skolithos-Sandstein bezeichnet.
Skolithos-Sandstein beinhaltet fossile Wurmbauten aus dem Sandwatt, speziell im Stömungsbereich von Prielen und im gut durchströmten Vorstrandbereich (hochenergetischer Bereich genannt), die in verschiedenen Zeitaltern vorkommen.
Die Würmer ernährten sich wahrscheinlich von Schlick, wie unsere heutigen Wattwürmer. Die hellen Punkte sind sozusagen der Anschnitt der Röhren. Die ältesten Skolithosquarzite stammen aus dem Kambrium und kommen in Schottland vor.
