World Photography Day.

World Photography Day.
This is a view from Almada to the disabled shipyards of Lisnave and the wide section of River Tagus estuary.
I stood where once it was an island - in the pliocene period, 10 million years ago. The sea level was much higher and there was a single estuary for River Tagus (Lisbon) and River Sado (Setúbal). All the plains of the present Setúbal Peninsula were under water and the higher mounts were just islands.

HFW!

What a fascinating history of that place! Thank you for sharing it and the photo to "World Photography Day".

It's amazing to me the changes that happen over time. Did you pick this place with history you knew on purpose for the group on August 19th? Or did you discover it during a general outing? That is, what drew you to use this photo for the group?

I love waters edge. It is an interesting thing to note that often heavy industry rests at the edge of these beautiful places.

Yes, I picked this place on purpose for the group on August 19th. This is a place I know very well and where I live. The shipyard industry started in 1967 and closed in 2000 - most of the oil tankers that used to have maintenance there started using shipyards in the United Arab Emirates, meanwhile constructed, with lower labor costs. The river's width is about 4 miles there: it´s not the sea.
I thought it would be interesting to mention how this place would be about 10 million years ago, with a much higher sea level, long after dinosaurs extinction and long before mankind on earth.
