WP2174 WPG - [CITY DAIRY HORSE-DRAWN DELIVERY WAGO…

14 Feb 2017 1 1 175
POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Not Posted. Publisher / Photographer: Winnipeg Electric Studio Notation: Unfortunately, the signage on the side of this delivery wagon is difficult to make out due to the sunlight on the white paint (bad camera angle). The "City Dairy" sign is visible, but the lettering below it is unclear - although it looks like it may contain "Paterson". This is the first time that I have encountered attribution to the "Electric Light Studio, Main St., Winnipeg". The AZO stamp box is also of interest. I have not seen it referenced anywhere online - with four small diamonds in the corner. The full image of the reverse side:

KN0385 KENORA - AT THE DEVIL'S GAP, RAT PORTAGE, O…

14 Feb 2017 1 2 207
POSTCARD Date: Posted from Brandon, Manitoba on what appears to be September 1, 1905. Publisher / Photographer: Johnson's Pharmacy, Rat Portage, ON. #1641 Notation: This is one of a set several full-colour Rat Portage cards that were published apparently prior to the towns name change (to "Kenora") in May of 1905. they do have a divided back so it is likely they were printed sometime between early 1904 and May of 1905.

WP2172 WPG - ST. BONIFACE HOSPITAL

28 Jan 2017 2 1 209
POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Not Posted. Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified Notation: Although similar to a common colour lithograph postcard by Valentine & Sons, this real photo is taken from a sightly different angle - showing more of the balconies. The small storage shed to the left contains a pile of firewood on the right side. No doubt the shed would have been full in the winter time.

MN1122 MANITOU - MAIN STREET [AWAITING PARADE]

26 Jan 2017 1 1 201
POSTCARD Date: Posted July 1, 1914 to Mrs J. P. Mitchell in Waterman, Illinois. Publisher / Photographer: Edwards Studio, Killarney, Pilot Mound, Manitou Notation: I am assuming these crowds are assembling for a parade. Further up the street, a marching band is assembling. I can't be certain, but it looks like there could be a ceremonial arch at the far end of the street. Note on the reverse reads; "June 30 Dear Bro & Sister & Donald & Gladys. How are you? Ask Annie for some particulars. Am sending her a newspaper. Tomorrow is our big day here July 1st. Jessie is not very well. All have had Pink eye & now chicken pox is starting. Arlene has them, what will be next. Look at X on other side. E." I guess X is someone the recipients would recognize. Sadly, the signs are hard to read. I can only make out Hoffman & Jacobs on one, Confectionery and Baker, Refreshments, and Harnesses on others.

WP2169 WPG - [LENORE STREET AND LAURA SECORD SCHOO…

19 Jan 2017 2 227
POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Not Posted. Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified Notation: Note(s) on the back read; "All of the streets here are very broad. Lenore Street" "I'm gathering up all the stray cards & photos I can find, & I think they might interest you a little this the street (Lenore St.) I used to work on. Being all new houses & a nicer &newer part of the city, the roads were not finished then but they have been since and look fine. I marked the house I worked in. They all stand separate." At the far end of the block, where Lenore crosses Wolseley, is the north east corner of Laura Secord School. Of particular interest is that the original bell tower can still be seen. At some point in its history (in the 1960s, I believe) the tower was dismantled. Laura Secord School was constructed through 1912 - 1914, but the school was actually in operation beginning in August of 1913 with the 10 rooms that were finished at that point. That would indicate that this photo was likely taken 1913 or later. City records that show when Lenore street was first paved would be helpful in dating it more accurately.
