MN1122 MANITOU - MAIN STREET [AWAITING PARADE]

MN1122 MANITOU - MAIN STREET [AWAITING PARADE]
POSTCARD

Date: Posted July 1, 1914 to Mrs J. P. Mitchell in Waterman, Illinois.

Publisher / Photographer: Edwards Studio, Killarney, Pilot Mound, Manitou

Notation: I am assuming these crowds are assembling for a parade. Further up the street, a marching band is assembling. I can't be certain, but it looks like there could be a ceremonial arch at the far end of the street.

Note on the reverse reads; "June 30 Dear Bro & Sister & Donald & Gladys. How are you? Ask Annie for some particulars. Am sending her a newspaper. Tomorrow is our big day here July 1st. Jessie is not very well. All have had Pink eye & now chicken pox is starting. Arlene has them, what will be next. Look at X on other side. E." I guess X is someone the recipients would recognize.

Sadly, the signs are hard to read. I can only make out Hoffman & Jacobs on one, Confectionery and Baker, Refreshments, and Harnesses on others.

I like the striping on the shingled attic storey of the hotel ... with the ladies out on the ladies' balcony of course!
