Colloquially named after a lady working for the British Antarctic Survey at Port Stanley, the two basalt towers are situated at Cape Renard at the northern end of Lemaire Channel
Summer evening

Looking back into Lemaire Channel at quarter past 10 in the evening. At some 65° S and still at least a day's journey from the Antarctic circle the sun does go down at night.

Lemaire Channel is a 11km long and (at the narrowest point) 1600m wide passage between Booth Island (left) and Kiev Peninsula.

Neko Harbour

Neko Harbour is an inlet of Andvord Bay on the western coast of Graham Land. It was the only point where we set foot on Antarctic mainland, all the other landing places were on islands.
Our expedition ship MS Polar Star can be seen anchored in the bay.

Everest and Lhotse from Druk Air flight Paro-Delhi
|

In good weather Druk Air flights from Paro to Delhi are unsurpassed for views of the Himalayan chain. The pilot turns into a tour guide announcing peaks from Jomolhari, Kangchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest to Annapurna. Here the weather was so clear one could see well into Tibet and to the Transhimalaya.

Gentoo chick sleeping on the rocks at Neko Harbour.
The chicks have to chase after their parent to get food, a ruse to develop their muscles. After a while they need a rest;-)
Found a hilarious video of a food chase: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ-3te2AagM

Gentoo at Neko Harbour on an Antarctic summer's day with temperatures of +6°C. We often saw them lying like that when resting and they also like sliding downhill on their bellies;-)

Gentoo penguins (Pygoscelis papua) nesting on top of Danco Island. Our expedition ship MS Polar Star can be seen down in Errera Channel.
Pygoscelis species build their nest from stones to keep them dry and often go long ways to feed. Even for us humans it was a stiff uphill climb, more so for the penguins hopping and walking through snow and meltwater.

Early April may see spring in southern Norway but in the north it is still very much winter- with days getting longer rapidly.

Entrance to Trollfjord under a full moon- 11.27 p.m.
In winter Hurtigruten ships aren't allowed to go into Trollfjord because of the danger of avalanches (the surrounding mountains are appr. 1000m high and near vertical). We sailed to the entrance to have a look in.
