River crossing
On the road to Þórsmörk: ford over Jökulsá, the river originating from Gigjökull, an outlet glacier of Eyjafjallajökull.
This is an adapted 4x4 that can adjust tyre pressure from within the car (see the cables leading to the tyres).

Usually a driver has to get out of his car and reduce the pressure before going on mountain roads.

Many thanks, Amelia! I guess it works both ways. Obviously this is an Icelandic invention just like their Superjeeps which consist of a lorry chassis with the jeep on top;-)

Speziell auf den Straßen mit dem F davor, die nur im Sommer mit 4x4 befahrbar sind und keine Brücken haben....

Interesting stuff in the PiP.............and what a great innovation, which I've never seen or heard of before. It must make the driver's job much easier!

Thanks very much, Keith! Icelandic inventive spirit at it's best, you don't get cars like this straight from the factory;-) Our driver always had to get out to adjust the pressure but we stopped in interesting places where you could explore something else in the meantime.

Großen Dank, bk! Ja, da hat wohl mal einer über den Winter getüftelt und jetzt greift es um sich;-) Aber unser Fahrer ist noch brav ausgestiegen- und auf dieser Piste hatten wir auch das Gepäck hinten im Fahrgastraum, damit es nicht nass wird...Es sind übrigens auch 4x4 mit "Schnorchel" rumgefahren, damit der Motor nicht nass wird!

Herzlichen Dank, Percy! Da kommst du anders nicht durch- und reichlich Bodenfreiheit sollten sie auch haben. Bei den Superjeeps bräuchte ich eine Leiter zum Einsteigen;-)

That's an interesting vehicle! Looks like great countryside.Takes me back to when I was very young. We lived on a farm a long way from town and had to ford a river to go shopping. I used to be very scared. There has been a bridge over that river for many decades now.

Thanks a lot, Eunice! What an experience! Living in NZ used to be quite "adventurous", I guess you needed to have some pioneer spirit.
Icelanders are great at tinkering with their vehicles, they created superjeeps by putting the jeep on top of a lorry chassis to get the high clearance and the huge tyres needed to cope with the terrain.

Ich hatte vor Jahren mal ein Offroadtraining mitgemacht und selbst einen Suzuki Samurai (höhergelegt und mit Stollenreifen )besessen. Der kam in unseren Rheinbraungruben (so man sie durchfahren durfte) immer wunderbar durch, gerade weil er klein und leicht war.

Großen Dank, Berny! Und der passenden Fahrweise..... Auf der Strecke lagen so etliche Nummernschilder und abgebrochene Auspuffrohre von denen, die zu sportlich in die Flüsse gefahren sind, ohne zu checken, wie steil es da manchmal runter- und wieder raufgeht;-)

Das hier war ja nur ein Rinnsal....
