Photographed with a Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5 lens, a sharp optic by any standards. I was interested in whether Lightroom (and presumably other editing programs) could provide what we used to depend on for this kind of softness, a soft focus or diffusion filter. (Soft focus is not simply slightly out of focus). Anyway, the software seems to work well enough for my purposes. The main, but not the only, tool to use is the clarity slider.

Dropping clarity and texture also helps. (I sometimes drop this to zero which seems to increase softness without increasing noise). (See www.ipernity.com/doc/old_owl/50653476 for an example.)
