Cologne - Adolph Kolping

Cologne - Adolph Kolping
Cologne is the fourth-largest city in Germany - and one of the oldest. A Germanic tribe, the Ubii, had a settlement here, this was named by the Romans "Oppidum Ubiorum". In 50 AD, the Romans founded "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium", the city then became the provincial capital of "Germania Inferior".

Three traditional journeymen crossing the road after having visited the tomb of Adolph Kolping, the "Father of All Apprentices", whose tomb is in the Minoritenkirche.

Adolph Kolping (1813 — 1865) was the second president of the "Gesellenverein" ("Journeymen's Union") which gave the journeymen of the 19th century strong social support. Out of this developed, what is today known as "Kolpingwerk".
