Mersault - SHAME
The village Mersault, known worldwide for it´s "Premier Cru" vineyards, is situated about 0.5 kms west of the N74, that cuts through a part of the village named L´Hôpital de Meursault. Here in medieval times was a hospital. The buildings of the hospital and the chapel, dating back to the 12th century still exist.
Some people knew, that these buildings, that later served as a farm, are an architectural jewel, and had a parking lot built, just opposite the entrance. - But that was the end of the investment. The hospital, seen here is a terrible, horrifying ruin. Doors and throughways are either closed by walls - or just open for anybody. It seems that not a try was ever done, to restore that. The place is full of waste.
Homeless people live here, with no electricity, no running water, obviously owning not more that a matress and a couple of plastic bags, like a memento on the leprosy patients, who lived here once. This was the worst place, I ever entered in France! To know, that famous Mersault is less than a kilometer away, makes the shame even bigger.
