21 December 2012
21 December, Winter Solstice!
I'm quite looking forward to it this year. Today 17 December, we have 3 hours and 43 minutes twix sunrise and sunset. Tomorrow will be one minute and 3 seconds shorter. -But we'll creeping up toward the solstice, the shortest day of the year and after that… the days will start getting longer and longer again, although not necessarily warmer for a while.
As noted above I'm delighted to think that in just a few more days we'll be over the hump and no matter how cold it gets, we'll be rushing pell mell, gaining minutes after minutes a day of sunlight, rushing downhill toward summer!
OK, OK, up here on top of the world it's still going to take us about 5 months of that "rushing" to reach summer, but I'm delighted to have the downhill slope in sight! -grin-
