At minus forty degrees

At minus forty degrees
I thought sure I had posted this back in 2007, but I couldn't find it on my (then flickr site, before I moved here to ipernity) after a very diligent search so…

This is my friend, Kumiko, who lives in Japan but visits here often, tossing a cup of hot coffee in to the air at around -40°. What happens when one does that? The coffee instantly freezes, becoming a cloud of tiny tiny ice particles and not a drop hits the ground!

The reason I thought of this, and looked for it, and am now posting it: As we speak, right now, it is -39° outside my house. Highly unusual for mid-November. It looks like we may be in for a cold winter! Hum. Maybe I ought to go toss another log on the fire! :-)
