Old City Light and Power, Indiana Michigan Power Utility Pole

Old City Light and Power, Indiana Michigan Power Utility Pole
A shot of an old City Light and Power, Indiana Michigan Power utility pole in the neighborhood of Spy Run in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Small sections of Spy Run and sections of Northside are the last two neighborhoods in Fort Wayne to have some of the old CL&P/I&M poles still up in service.

This shot shows an old transformer bank with the two outside ones being very old cast iron Westinghouse transformers. The glass insulator is a CD 272 Whitall Tatum 511A. I waited over two months to get perfect lighting on this shot. Not only was I bless with the nice late evening light but also with nearly a full moon.

Before March 1, 1975 the top two crossarms would of been I&M while the bottom one along with the secondary lines with the spool insulators CL&P. After that date, I&M leased from CL&P for 35 years until on February 28, 2010, I&M would eventually become the exclusive electric service provider for Fort Wayne.

Amazing find and shot there! Those two transformers on the left and right sides are very early Westinghouse units, and likely date back to the 1910's or early 1920's. They're definitely over 90 years old.

Here are a few on "my" CL&P (Connecticut Light & Power Co.):

Also looks like a pretty early box cutout on the left hand side of the second crossarm.

Again, a fantastic find there! Keep up the great work. : )

Thanks, I'm glad you like this one a lot. When I first saw this pole in the winter I took some "just in case shots" but the lighting wasn't that good because of bad shadows. I only wish there were more of these old cast irons around. Funny, this was taken just a 1/4 mile down the street from I&Ms main material headquarters.

Nice find! What I like is how the transformer secondary was slid down between the old muni's lines.
