olb - Whitby No2 lifeboat at Poplar
Whitby 's No 2 lifeboat, the 'Jacob and Rachael Vallentine', being lifted by a steam crane, prior to being loaded onto a train at the LNER Poplar goods depot, UK. It has just been reconditioned and four horses were needed to haul it from the docks to where it was placed on the train. It is 34 feet long and with a bean of 8.5 feet.

ON 580 "Jacob and Rachel Vallentine" was built in 1907, and like ON594 is a Rubie class pulling [rowing] lifeboat. 34ft long & 8'6" beam. 10 oars with a crew of up to 13.
She served at Haisborough 1907 to 1926, then as Palling No.1 1926 to 1930.
After being reconditioned posted as Whitby No2 1931 to 1938.
Sold out of service in February 1938, fate not known ...
