28-person "single fall" lifeboat capsule intended for "off-shore" applications ... the first was constructed in 1968.

The "single fall" refers to having just one point of attachment to the parent structure, unlike the fore and aft attachments of a traditional "ship's lifeboat". Oval / spherical shape offers certain advantages.
