Totals (shown as percentages) are finally getting there. Note that these figures cover quite wide variations in some parts of the UK. My local area is above all of the county, English and UK rates.
With the prospect of getting even further down the age groups, boosters for the most vulnerable and campaigns reducing hesitancy, I hope that the situation with the high rate of cases may improve. New infections are, predominantly, the 'Indian' variant after the 'Kent' wave at the start of 2021. There is some concern that the high case rate may permit Covid-19 to create another variant.
Vaccinations have already reduced the death and hospitalisation rates.

Unfortunately, we've a few of those ourselves.

And a government much too anxious to get "back to normal" to "save the economy / christmas" , so that they lifted the masking & other requirements far too soon. They have also frequently - or so it seems to me - largely ignored the best scientific advice.
Expecting the vaccines to do all the 'heavy lifting' in preventing a rise in new cases has been a mistake ... and a lot of people are dying as a result.
