Rüdesheim Rhineland-Palatinate Germany 30th April 2018
DB electric 185 198-9 on a tank train heading north towards Koblenz passes the ruins of Ehrenfels Castle and the vineyards on the east bank of the Rhine.
Together with the Mäuseturm and the Klopp Castle it formed a northward barrier from the 13th Century, in order to protect the territory of the archbishopric of Mainz. The castle, which was used in times of war as a hiding place for the cathedral treasury of Aachen, was extensively destroyed in 1689.

Teile des Aachener Domschatzes waren während des 2 Weltkrieges im Haincher Grubenstollen, Siegerland. Auch Köln hatte dort Schätze ausgelagert.
Ich hoffe der Rheinwein hat Dir geschmeckt.
Schöne Grüße und eine gute Woche
Erich
Loose_Grip/Pete club has replied to sea-herdorf clubWe did exactly that - this photo was taken from the "Goethe"! It was very enjoyable as were the Rhine region wines - not to mention the Moselle wines - we were actually staying in Bullay. A great holiday.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
Pete
