Wees waakzaam - Be vigilant

Wees waakzaam - Be vigilant
Mensen
Weest waakzaam

Earth from all martyrdom places
of Europe at the time of Nazi domination
was gathered at Buchenwald
and buried here in an urn

On 11 April 1945 concentrationcamp Buchenwald was liberated. Five days later a now very welll known photo was taken in Buchenwald, with a.o. Elie Wiesel and Max Hamburger. In 2009 Elie Wiesel accompanied president Obama and chancellor Merkel during their visit to Buchenwald, Obama mentioned a familymember of him was present during the liberation of Buchenwald.

However: be vigilant. Just because it is happening again: the Brazilian president insults a journalist by saying the journalist has ‘a homosexual face’; the US president insults American members of parliament on base of their origin; EU-member Poland calls out LHBT free zones…

On the cemetary De Nieuwe Ooster in Amsterdam.

Sometimes I think it does not help at all, no matter how hard we say that we should learn from the mistakes done in the past.

Great contribution.

And therefore it is very important to remember history. And ask oneself: how can I help someone else just now?

Powerful reminder ...

Sadly these days we still see those who are not only repeating some of the awful events of history but adding to them for their own personal gain, agendas and personal vendettas. Throughout history we have seen how when one group other throws another they seek to obliviate any record or indication that the defeated group ever existed along with no mention of the good or progress made by that group.

Powerful image of man's inhuman treatment of others Diederik.
Fine contribution Diederik

It is therefore very important to remember history. And for the now: how can I help someone else? is important. Helping someone else can be very very simple.
BTW, I already linked to that photo, both in the description and in the links. ALso tried to embed it in a note, but Ipernity doesnot allow embedding from other sites in a note. So I linked also in the note,
