Into the mist--

Into the mist--
Mt. Lowe Trail, San Gabriel Mountains, southern California. SoCal isn't always sunny! This is a forest service fire road that is open to foot, horse, and mountain bike traffic--in theory, also to emergency vehicles, but they'd have to move some rocks out of the way. The slopes are steep enough, and the road narrow enough, that it would also be a hairy ride in a vehicle! The road eventually connects to an old railroad grade, the Mt. Lowe Railway, which ran excursion trains from Altadena up into the San Gabriels from the 1890s to the 1930s. It would have been a spectacular train ride, at least when the sun was out.

A trail I've "meant" to take for years, but never gotten around to it!

We just stumbled across it, even tho I'd been up to Mt. Wilson decades ago. It's amazing how much wild country there still is in the San Gabes.

I keep planning to explore the mountains more, but then not getting around to it. Now that I'm in a location where the day hours can get too hot to do much, I should start exploring them more.
