Hollow log
Off the Star Lake trail, Lake Tahoe basin, California. As a kid I read about hollow logs in adventure stories, and always wondered how such a thing could happen. (I lived in a _desert_; my experience with forests was minimal!) Anyway, they do exist!

It's interesting because you'd figure the heartwood would be the most resistant to decay. It probably is species-related.
