That must have been some very impressive runoff. I thought you were having a major drought over there (though I guess a big country, so different areas maybe).

Yeah, the drought is concentrated in the Sierra Nevada and mountain ranges to the east, where we're not getting the winter snowpack because the Pacific storms are being shunted aside by a persistent high. Down in southern Arizona and environs they have the monsoon, which brought in some good rains last fall. It seldom gets as far north as where we live. There's a North American monsoon which (per Wikipedia, anyway), altho less well-defined than the classic Indian monsoon is caused by a similar mechanism, with the Gulf of Mexico standing in for the Indian Ocean.

And, a further problem is that persistent high is sending all the Pacific storms off to the north, so they've been getting major flooding in Washington state! No drought up there right now--
