Paul Simon & Los Incas

Paul Simon & Los Incas
Re-posted for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: OUTDOORS AT NIGHT
Probably my all time favorite concert, this was taken in Hartford, Connecticut, in the spring of 1973. This was Paul Simon's first concert on the Kodachrome tour and the first time he had played without Garfunkel in years.
It was an amazing night.
He played with the Peruvian band Los Incas and also sang the most unbelievable version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" backed up by a fabulous gospel choir.
He played the most breathtakingly beautiful acoustic version of "American Song". I was sad when I heard the album version, it seemed so over orchestrated compared to what had been simple and perfect.
I took these pictures with a clunky, ancient but great Argus camera someone gave to me. I developed them in a friend's darkroom. and they're less than perfect, I know, but I love them as reminders of the one of the best concerts ever.
I confess this is a little bit of a cheat because it's not "outdoors" but I couldn't find any of those so I just followed the "at night" theme.

Fred Fouarge, appo-fam, Ronald Losure, Roger (Grisly) and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

Love this! My first pop concert was S&G in '67. Extra points for processing it yourself!!

Was that the Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme tour? Although I think that album came out in 1966.
And thanks. I always did love sloshing around in the darkroom!

Ha! I didn't know tours had names back then. That would have been the right time for that album's release. Sadly, my memory of the concert has all but vanished even though I was a fan. When I saw your photo I was disappointed at how little I remember about the event, while your memories seem so vivid. I can't even remember who I went with. I think photos help keep the memory fresh. Being the default photographer in our family has helped me remember a lot of details of family events that my wife has lost.
