Hi Therese .......I was not sure myself, but looked up Wasps & Bees. In the Bees found the the black lines were separated where as the Wasps were joined, but then maybe it's a Hornet ?

Like you, I was once attacked on holiday by ... a beehive (which I hadn't seen) ! I had long hair ... and you can guess the rest ! It was absolutely terrible! Our daughter was one year old and my husband had to run away with her while I was fighting with the bees. When I arrived at the hotel, I had to go to bed with a high fever ...

A beautiful little hoverfly. There are lots of different varieties and they don't sting. I love to watch them licking pollen off of flower stamens. This is a great close up and beautifully presented.
