Kingscote Station - 26 July 1987

Another picture from my archive shows Kingscote station, now on the Bluebell Railway, under restoration. The station, on the line from Lewes to East Grinstead, had closed in May 1955. During the 1980s the Bluebell Railway, then running between Sheffield Park and Horsted Keynes, acquired the land necessary to facilitate its extension northwards to Kingscote and, eventually, East Grinstead. In this 1987 photograph there is evidence of restoration work underway but it would not be until 1994 that the railway reached Kingscote, the terminal until the final extension was completed in 2013.
