Eco Collage

Eco Collage
Eco Collage was created from various garbage and litter consisting of broken glass, a plastic spacer ring, and a piece of a light bulb. The green colors were added to represent a vibrant, lush “Eden-like” earth when people and ecosystems live in harmony. It is disheartening that as the planet burns with scorching heat, massive wild fires and unquenchable drought, humanity remains oblivious to the existential threat that approaches. This collage also consists of various shapes and forms to represent how every nation and its peoples seamlessly fit together and thus must work together to address climate change through consistent policy and fiscal investments regardless of so-called socio-economic status – developed or third world – especially since both the former and latter share the same planet.

While the development of the hydrogen economy is likely a decade or more away, there are solutions for today – nuclear energy with mini reactors (in the 21st century in the United States, 21 people have died in nuclear accidents, predominantly from falls and electrocution[1] versus the 892 from coal mining accidents[2] and the more than 1500 figure for oil and gas extraction[3]; so regarding safety you be the judge!), the expansion of wind, solar and geothermal energy usage, the planting of trees, preservation of rainforests, the reintroduction of indigenous flora, the banning of pesticides that continue to exterminate crucial pollinators (bees and butterflies) and the shuttering of coal-fired plants that are not retrofitted to use the necessary filters for “clean coal.” At the same time hard deadlines no later than 2040 must be established for the end of fossil fuel use to promote the necessary investment and research and development for 100% clean energy use.

Bottom line: If the world continues to dither, then the prophesy of the 1500 CE triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights by Dutch master painter Hieronymus Bosch (c. 1450-1516) will come true and we will be left with a scorched, charred planet. :( smarthistory.org/garden-bosch

If people come together and work together, then we will continue to have a green planet with ecosystems that thrive and humanity will be spared. :)

Your Eco Collage expresses very well the state-of-the-.art of Earth's even break point. Policymakers and governments should use your eco symbol as an everyday reminder of their responsibilities before humanity.

You're absolutely right when you say that the solution has to be taken among all countries, either rich or under development. The target is only one and universal.

There isn't enough time available to reverse the situation.

Heartfelt and well-reasoned notes to go alongside your creative work of art, William. When I first saw your post, for a split second I thought I was looking at a map with lots of greenery denoting nature. Then I saw your 'smile' and knew to look much closer!
Best wishes,
Andy

Half-truths, half-heartedness and the greed for further “economic growth,” i.e., the incessant search for one's own advantage, are indeed disheartening. And yet, the smile and greenery in this fascinating abstract artwork of yours show that hope exists and is justified.

Tax investments are unfortunately decided in such high places that they remain disconnected from the impact of their decisions on the future of mankind: their human consciousness is unfortunately limited to their ultimately egocentric sphere. The unconscious theorised by Freud has no notion of time or common interest, and it is governing them.
The prophecy of Hieronymus Bosch's triptych is therefore likely to come true.
In this omnipotent system, the people have no possibility of uniting and working together as long as they are subject to the market economy...
Fortunately, they are becoming aware of this, especially the future generations, but despite - or because of - this they are more enslaved than their elders, which we are. We can only hope that they will find the resources to survive individually, as in the Middle Ages...

I forgot to congratulate you on this relevant quasi-abstract collage which, in my eyes, represents the eco-construction that is developing more and more in France and elsewhere. I have faith in it and in all those initiatives that counteract the global trend. But unfortunately they remain marginal today - hopefully not tomorrow...

Thank you Eric. Yesterday it was announced that a deal had been reached to provide funding for climate change among other things. The total cost was $369 billion and if we're lucky half may go for climate change. Also today it was estimated the flooding in Kentucky likely caused $1 billion in damage. Add the wildfires in California, the flooding in St. Louis and the national cost will be a lot higher. How many more billion dollar events are needed or loss in life has to occur before climate change is taken seriously?

In any event, I also agree that Bosch's prophesy will be the end result, even if I try to stay optimistic. :( Stay well.

Indeed, it seems that the billions now invested in saving the climate are almost swallowed up by the repair of the damage our negligence is causing. The point of no return, so often predicted, seems to have been crossed... But let us remain positive and motivated ;)

Thank you Claus-Peter and Lucia Lucia. Let's hope we gain the wisdom before it's too late since a replacement planet isn't the answer since it's so hard to find and serves no purpose if we'll destroy it in the same way. Stay well.

Interesting collage and a great message, William,
sadly, parts of the world appear to have little interest in what the rest of us are trying to do, somehow they need to be brought on board.

Thank you Roger and Annaig! Tragically Roger, it seems the only way these parts of the world will ever be brought on board is if they put aside selfishness expecting others to pay for their efforts and when storms and climactic events become even more extreme and deadly. :( Right now these pols have little concern for their citizens. Stay well!

Wonderful, very thoughtful creation and explanation. What you say is very true. But in my view (for what it may be worth), all we have is hope that we all, including the politicians, will come to our senses. Yet I am not at all optimistic. I think that we and most of the rest of living things are doomed. I see no real, realistic effort to mitigate the problem, but rather we take one step forward and two steps back, witness the war in Ukraine, the destruction of the rain forest in Brazil, the actions of the petroleum industry, etc. etc. And many efforts to mitigate the situation in the short term result in worsening it in the long term. Sorry for my very dark outlook.
