Perhaps you missed the notice on the gate "Penalty for not closing the gate £1000", which means there is a public footpath crossing the track, and I am certainly in a public place!
More generally, there is a complex system for issuing trackside permits, which I do take advantage of from time to time... (but not in this case).

Hello Peter what a smashing shot here of the double header and indeed certainly very nicely framed .. It looks like the fence was lucky to survive the trackside fire .

One of the key things any railway photographer needs is a timetable! (Another is the weather forecast..) Pictures are always planned in advance to match the weather, lighting, geography, etc etc... As Steve says above, the lead loco is out on the East Coast Main Line this Sunday.. No doubt there will be people lining the tracks!

Another fine line-side loco Peter. You certainly seem to know the best spots to catch these engines at their best and as is nearly always the case at such spots, a fence for the taking too.. Always nice to see a black-five like this. Great capture.
