Mar de Cristal metro station

Mar de Cristal metro station
Between 2011 and 2013 I used this metro station up to 8 times a day. I probably knew it better than any station in the UK including Pinner station on the Metropolitan Line, London. And that is a statement I never thought I would make in a month of Sundays!
The train is going INTO the tunnel. Cars drive on the right in Madrid as you would expect but metro trains do the opposite, as in London! I tried to find out why and read that it was for 'historic reasons'!

Cannot tell you how it is in Portugal, but as we have strong links with the British.... ? Never took the tube in Lisbon, I am claustrophobic.

Yes - here's the answer!
Thank you Wikipedia!
'Unlike normal Spanish road and rail traffic, which use right hand drive, Madrid Metro trains use left-hand running on all lines because traffic in Madrid drove on the left until 1924, well after the Madrid Metro started operation. ... The Madrid Metro has 1,705 escalators, the most of any system in the world.'

How interesting that the trains go on the left underground, just like ours. So traffic used to drive on the left hand side of the road until 1924!! I never knew that.
