Great capture again Andy. Never seen the stones in a dry-stone wall arranged in this way before. I guess this must be local to Cornwall.
Best wishes, Doug

Thanks, Doug!
I've only ever seen it here, at Wheal Coates. I mention granite in the tags as this is a granite 'inselberg' but there are other rock types very close by and I suspect these walls near the mine were constructed from a variety of rocks.
There is only one open side to this wall. it is holding back the earth and rock on the other side.
Best wishes, Andy

I wonder perhaps the reason for the arrangement of the stones is because it is a retaining wall built by miners rather than a field boundary built by farmers.

You may well be right, Doug!
Except ... most of the miners were also farmers and came from farming stock and knew perfectly well how to build walls to suit many different circumstances.
I feel the answer may lie more in the particular nature of the stones they were working with and the specific requirements of the job in hand.
No-one around to ask, unfortunately!

Wow! You use "Inselberg" in your language! Nice to find it this way round once. ;-)
Beautiful and interesting picture - perhaps you would like the Wachau-area, west of Vienna along Danube river. Granit of (well, I try) Böhmische Masse and lots of drystone-walls/terrasses ... not that artistic as yours in Britain, but still it works ... ;-)
Cheers.

Great contrast between the flowers and foliage in the foreground and the harsh shapes and textures in the wall. Very nicely composed and taken Andy.

That is impressive! I can't imagine the hard labor that went into building that fence. It's a gorgeous scene.
