I don't know what the white stuff is in the background. Maybe some kind of grain I'm not familiar with...aha! Ask Google and ye shall receive: It's Meadowfoam..."harvested for seed, then crushed for oil and used in cosmetics. The meal, the byproduct from crushing, is used to feed cattle. Bees are used to help pollinate the flower and in return make delicious honey!" From OregonGreen.com. (Elsewhere, I found
that it's also used in crop rotation with grains.)

Yes, it must look very sad over there! These are all drought-tolerant plants, since the American West (except for the coast) is very dry even in normal years. Those are Juniper trees on the hills.

There is a campaign in some areas of California to pay people to dig up their lawns and plant drought resistant native plants. Even if people don't do it, water is going to be forbidden for outdoor use, anyway! Those stupid golf courses!

At least the golf courses in Vegas are now using recycled (and non-potable) water. There are warning signs not to drink it!

Well, that's a few decades late, but I guess it's better than nothing! I'm surprised the golfers aren't infuriated about having to walk in non-potable water.
