From Fred Meyer grocery, which is owned by Kroger. FM has Kroger products, but I don't know if the opposite is true.

Smiley Derleth has particularly liked this photo

The advent of churro flavored treats is a gift to America. And that other one ... it's killing me. We have that same grocery here, I think, and I need to go ice cream hunting.

I added a note in the description: "From Fred Meyer grocery, which is owned by Kroger. FM has Kroger products, but I don't know if the opposite is true." FM is a Northwest chain, so don't know how much they would have their house brands in Kroger stores. Hope they do, for your sake! :-b

Let me know if you find it.

Is that safeway or fred meyer brand? Can't remember. I will have to search the Churro out for my husband!

You can double up my ice cream anytime you want...

Fred Meyer (Safeway's house brand is Private Reserve, I think). Oooh, let me know if your husband likes it. I swear, I literally GOBBLE it down like it's the last ice cream I'll ever have!

ah! so close in name.

I just found the Churro ice cream in online delivery ordering. It's on sale! Will order with next week's groceries.

(Oops, I accidentally deleted my reply, which wasn't interesting anyway!)

Enjoy your ice cream!

No idea what churro is, nor do I know what wildberries are either! But it's good to have the odd craving here and there!

A deep fried Mexican pastry - like a cinnamon-sugar donut, but a long and narrow shape. There is a picture of them on the lid. Delish! Of course, you will never know, will you? ;-(

I must be nuts, Diane! Of course I know what churros are! We have plenty of kiosks selling them here! I had a mental block that night obviously!
I dislike them intensely, which is just as well as I can't have then anyway (diabetes).
There is just such a kiosk selling them outside my local hospital. I think they must re-use and re-use and then re-use again the cooking oil because the place makes me want to gag each time I walk past it, and there is no way to get around it. Judging by the morning queues the pong doesn't put off the Madileños/as! They are probably immune to it.

The scenario you so artfully recount made me laugh! It seems like a good time for you to wear your most impervious mask. What is "the pong?"

Yes, you're probably nuts.

Oh my, if you had the churro in England I wouldn't be surprised that it was bad. I've never had anything resembling actual Mexican food in England (and my husband instists we try whenever we are there). So maybe you would like the actual item (in another life without diabetes).

Andy spends most of his time in Madrid, where he teaches Business English. I had assumed he saw them there, but maybe not! By the way, I ate Chinese food in Italy. I was walking all day and on the way back to my B&B I popped into a small take-out place. I was starved, so it tasted delicious!

Thank you for your corroboration and validation re my nuttiness, Diane. Much appreciated.
'Pong': a very common British English synonym for a stench, stink or horrid smell! I didn't know it wasn't an American English term as it's extremely common on our side of the pond!

Churros are not known in England, Laura. I'm talking anout Madrid where I have lived these past 10 years!
I have no idea about Mexico. I believe churros are Spanish (certainly they originated here). Perhaps they are also known in Latin America?
Obviously much scope for confusion! :o)

I replied to Laura before I saw your helpful clarification, Diane!
I had a kebab in Madrid once which really did make me want to gag!
I do remember some English pubs serving curry with chips (no rice). Things imporoved much in terms of pub grub from aout the 1980s onwards. But there were still some horrors in recent times!

I do believe churros are made in other Latin American countries, but are more commonly known as a Mexican treat in the USA. The Conquistadores left something good behind. ;-b

It's pretty hard to mess up kebab, it can at least be made edible. American Chinese food used to be horrible, though we didn't know the difference at the time. It tasted very canned and greasy, lots of sweet-and-sour sauce on everything. The more Chinese immigrants we got, the better the food got. Same with all other immigrant food!

The Fred Meyer stores here in Phoenix have all changed to Fry's Groceries now which is also a Kroger affiliate.

Oh, I had no idea they had expanded so far from the Northwest. Yes, it's confusing, big chains are always merging and buying each other.
