Down at the Gauldrons

Down at the Gauldrons
Just south of Machihanish, a wonderful coastal walk brings you to this landscape. While we see nice seabirds on the water, I also spot a bird of prey flying around the top edge of these cliffs.

See the PiP for closer look at the big outcrop.

Enjoy full screen.

I'd love a closer view to identify the flowers...if you don't mind, and the photo is outstanding.

thanks for enjoying this Isabel. Looking at it full resolution at 6000x4000 the flower heads seem no sharper. Maybe a better lens required :) Not much point posting a new photo to demonstrate the fact.
ps Keith below gives us the answer.

Must be viewed large Herb. The wild flowers are beautiful and the lichen covered rocks.
Two superb shots. Cheers, Rosa.

This is just fantastic Herb................I've already mentioned the lush green background and cliffs (on your other image), but the rugged looking rocks in the sea are look quite dangerous.

I especially like the rocks in the immediate foreground..............I love the way their look has been "softened" by the colourful lichen and the beautiful wildflowers.......which, by the way I think are probably Thrift.

An absolutely beautiful place and image. Well done sir!

Information from the National Trust website: "Thrift is an easily recognised wildflower. Its leaves form dense short, compact clumps which send out lots of flower stems up to a foot high topped by compact bright pink flower heads. Sometimes called the 'Sea Pink' or 'Cliff Rose'. Look for it in particularly rocky coastal places (sometimes in stone walls and hedge banks) and in short grass pasture."

Hi Keith, I might have guessed that yo would now what these plants were. After reading this I remembered my wife recognising them on seeing them.. Great that you enjoyed the walk with me.

Best Wishes. Herb
