Godrevy Lighthouse

Godrevy Lighthouse
We make a special journey to cross the headland of Godrevy Point so that we can see this lighthouse from up close. We are on the ‘South west Coast’ path but we can also see it from the hill near our cottage some miles away.

Built on Godrevy Island in St Ives Bay, Cornwall. It marks the infamous Stones reef which has been a hazard to shipping for centuries. Established in 1859 and designed by James Walker. It has a white 26 metre octagonal tower and was made famous by Virginia Woolfe in her novel ‘To the Lighthouse’, though she places it somewhere else.

Enjoy full screen.

Can you get across to the island on foot? We haven't been to the coast for ages, and I'm really missing it.

Hi Amelia, thanks for your visit here. The Island is privately owned and landing is not permitted. There is no bridge! You can get to this viewpoint on foot naturally but I believe one car park quite close to where we stand here, but we parked about a mile or so away and did a round walk around the headland. I think that most Island lighthouses are on private property and so visitors rarely get up close. I do hope you get back to the sea soon, as I know we miss it after six months or so. I live some 37 miles away from our nearest bit of coast at Liverpool.

Keep safe. Herb

A super viewpoint Herb..............I like the blue tones of the sea and sky and the white lighthouse stands out nicely. Beautifully composed too.

Nice to see the bird in flight..............I thought is was a seal at first and had to enlarge the shot to see it was a bird :-))

Definitely worth viewing large to see all the fantastic detail.
