A first look at WastWater

A first look at WastWater
As we pass Low Wood on the left we find ourselves at the very southern end of this lonely West Lake District lake, called more correctly a ‘Water’ in common with all but one of the sixteen ‘Lake District’ lakes not being called lakes at all, instead being ‘Meres’ and ‘Waters’. The most prominent hill here is Yewbarrow at 628m resembling the upturned hull of a boat or a barrow.
As usual the landscape is dotted with local sheep. The PiP’s, are taken from the same hillside and possibly in your opinion may have merited having been the main photo here.

Glad you liked these Toz. This end of the lake is much softer than the other end. I wanted to hike up to the top of the scree side but Eileen showed me the folly of that :) Gald you liked the PiPs. In fact I had originally chosen the first PiP as my favourite for the main but then changed my mind.

I think you chose the main image well Herb.............The light in the foreground is lovely and I like the hazy sunshine on the hills and the attractive sky. Lots of beautiful green tones and some nice reflected light on the water.

The first PiP is beautiful............also with lovely light, especially over the hills and wonderfully vibrant colours in the landscape. I like the tree and sheep in the foreground and the blue reflected light on the water too.

I love the vibrant colours and detail in the farm machinery in the second PiP............perfect for anchoring the shot. I also like the different tones and textures in the fields and the dry stone wall. A gorgeous misty background too.

An excellent series my friend!

Nice to see you Keith. A real debate of which was to be my main photo here and so I am glad you agreed with my choice, I have some more from round here to come. The shining sun made a big difference to the usual lighting I had had here in the Lakes. The red machinery makes that photo stand out too as you plainly appreciate.

I would have posted all three on separate days for fully justified greater impact in each case, Herb. All are superb!

Andy, you voice a truth that I thought about too. The fact is, I take much too many photos to have the luxury of posting all such photos separately. I always think it is one of the strengths of Ipernity that allow us to sub-divide our pages with multiple views. Glad you liked them.

Three terrific photos though I must say the main one is wisely chosen, it's perfectly composed! Did you walk along the screes?
