Lake Windermere and Wansfell pike from Wray Castle

13 Feb 2017 9 14 390
It is getting increasing difficult to take pictures around this beautiful lake without tourist being present. Here we see the average weather and the Lakeland fells with a light covering of snow. If you are prepared to get a little cold you can also have a very pleasant cruise around the lake enjoying your hot cup of tea.

Tarn Hows, jewel of the Lake District

13 Feb 2017 10 16 626
The word Tarn is another word for a small lake. We have a few of these here in the Lake District and this is perhaps the most beautiful and also hence the most popular. Its easy to get to with ample near parking and even a wheelchair path that goes all around the lake now. For me, its been quite a few years since I last visited but its charms still hold true. Enjoy

The Idyle of Grassmere

23 Feb 2016 9 4 370
Walking along the South banks of this fine Lake District Mere we stumble into a small outside cafe that includes a hire boat service if required. For me the photo location takes some beating and the coffee and cakes aren't bad either.

Copper mines area, near Coniston

22 Feb 2016 3 282
A great walk from the old town of Coniston in the English Lake District brings us up to the area known as 'Copper Mines'. There really were copper mines around here but now alas, holiday cottages take there place. However still a nice bit of landscape even in this poor Winter weather.

Wastwater Scree

19 Jun 2015 2 2 282
Without a doubt, Wastwater, England's deepest lake (79m) is moody. Here we see the scree on its East shore. There is in fact a pathway, just above the bottom trees for those brave soles that wish to circumnavigate the lake.

Mist layers from Gummer's How

A little bit of imagination added to this but I hope it does not detract from the natural beauty of the moment. Gummers How is a famous viewpoint hill on the West side of our Lake Windermere.

The river outlet at the Northern end of this wonderful stretch of water here in the English Lake District is an ideal spot to relax and take in the splendours of this scene.

Incoming storm at Buttermere

As the play of light alters by the second and the threat of heavy rain is imminent I share this view towards 'Haystacks'. Buttermere can just be seen at the centre bottom here.

Ennerdale at sunset 2

29 Oct 2014 3 4 292
As the sun starts to dip behind the hills, its last rays gives brilliance to this patch of farmland. The hill behind is 'Grike' here in the Lake District. Looking South West.

Ennerdale at sunset

The sun starts to dip and already the wonderful Ennerdale Water lake is in shadow but we can still enjoy the fells of our Western Lake District looking to the South.

A Brotherswater Idyll

29 Jan 2011 71 104 1081
Sit back with me here and wonder at how sometimes man's involvement with nature can harmonise so well. Taken on the shores of one of the lesser known lakes: Brotherwater in our Lake District. HFF to all, and enjoy your weekend, Herb

One of our 'Lake District' lakes -Loweswater on a calm day like today is a lake of dreams. I am almost afraid to make a sound with the camera in fear of braking this mirror spell. Enjoy!
