A tree like no other

A tree like no other
I must admit to having a love for trees, especially trees of character as this one is. Seen above Loweswater Lake and again showing a glimpse of the newly introduced Belted Galloway cows. What kind of tree is it? I will let you investigate :)

Nice full screen.

The tree is a Belter to match the Belted Galloways.

Everything is beautiful, here, the tree, the cows, the drystone walls and the fence. It seems a oak, but has few leaves.

I love the shape of the tree as well Herb...............and it blends nicely into the background. It's difficult to tell from this photo, even viewed large, but like Daniela (above) I'd guess at an oak.

I suspect that if you'd photographed this in winter it would have appeared to be dead, but it's great to see all the lush new growth. Beautifully captured sir!

Those belted cattle are lovely, I've seen a few photos of them lately!

There were many fine oak trees in the woods below and so I think you would be right about that. Even at the full size 6000x4000, I cannot make out the leaf shape correctly. Many thanks again for just enjoing my stuff here.

An interesting tree. I’m baffled. i recently discovered that I have been completely wrong about some trees I thought I knew. i continue to be confused unless I can get closer and see leaves and fruits then I’m only mostly confused :-)

Ah I thought it was only me who made that mistake with trees. I have a few books on trees alone but I am still no expert. Like you seeing the leaves and berries up close sometimes helps.

Cheers for the visit. Keep safe, Herb

Truly a beautiful old tree full of character, Herb, and the countless shades of green help it to stand out even as it blends in ... So large and with sinous branches, my guess would be a venerable old oak.

Not easy to ID when not close to see the leaf Herb, It's a vase shape and more of a smooth surface taking me away from the idea of it being an Oak. Mind taking a second look it has been damaged by the ravages of time and perhaps more round in shape in earlier years so relating to Oak.

Hi Herb

A very nice picture, especially including the cattle.

I suppose it is a 'Lonesome Tree', but also it looks very old.
An internet search for old trees in Loweswater didn't help me, and as I am not an expert in trees, I have no better idea!!

Best Wishes, and stay safe!!
