Memories of Tuscany: Siena

Memories of Tuscany: Siena
The next town on our Tuscany list is Siena. Here we see a view looking towards the highest part of this charming city, showing its cathedral, ‘Duomo di Siena’. Its construction started in 1196 and it is built with medieval bricks.
The Pip shows the main forward view of this magnificent building.

Enjoy.

A beautiful PiP of the cathedral Herb. Your main picture is just how I imagine so many cities in Italy. I guess they have different stone and architecture in different regions. A lovely addition to the series. Sunday greetings, Rosa.

Italy has just so much to offer for us photographers. Like the UK not only does it have stunning landscapes but its town and cities are a true delight with loads of history too. A few more from here to come.

Happy Sunday to you too. Herb

I love this view of the warren of medieval houses in Siena "leading up" to the cathedral. You must have taken this not too far from San Domenico's lookout (where I took this: www.ipernity.com/doc/2518356/49770174//in/album/1268980 ). You did a better job than me on the light and details, though, and I like that you went with the color because Siena definitely has its own soft coloured brickwork that is peculiar to it.

I think you are right Annalia, about where i took this photo from. I think I was not far from the big car-park there and was looking across a valley too. Like you say, your mono shots looks good but with these gentle honey stone colours here it had to be colour for me. Great that we shared the same paths. -ps I envy you your many trips here.

A wonderful view over the rooftops to the cathedral captured in awesome detail. The cathedral really dominates the skyline and looks good against the blue sky.

The close up view in the PiP is really impressive...........such a grand building! Once again the detail and textures are stunning. I especially like the stripes on the steeple!

Terrific work my friend!

Hi Toz. Yes, I nearly put the cathedral as the main photo as it would have been originally in Panoramio but I wanted to just show folks what the city looked like from further away. Too many photos from here to post each one as a full photo. Glad you liked it.

Cheers, Herb
