Ingleton waterfalls trail: Thornton Force

Ingleton waterfalls trail: Thornton Force
The third waterfall encountered on this incredible trail: Thornton Force is arguably the most spectacular of the waterfalls seen on the impressive Waterfalls Walk at Ingleton in the Yorkshire Dales.

This is a textbook case of geological unconformity, the river plunging over a cliff of horizontal strata Great Scar Limestone which overlays much older Ordovician Ingleton slates, and is a direct result of the Craven Fault which dominates the scenery of the western dales.
Pip of the adjacent page close up.
Very nice full screen. Enjoy

It must be great to actually be there Herb, is it very noisy?

It was great to do this walk. After paying £7 entrance fee, the walk is about five miles over what might be described as rough and sometimes a little dangerous when wet. On most of the two valley sections the sound of the river is with you all the time and at the falls themselves we are treated to the sound of thunder when close up as I was here. -
Great that you liked it. I think the adjacent photo probably demonstrates the possibility of the sound better though. Cheers and keep safe. Herb

Good to see you Dave. Was a great walk and very successful photographically too. You would like it here, if you have not done it already.

Spectacular! I really like the composition and the water action - you really get a sense of how powerful the water is as it tumbles over the rocks.

I like the PiPs too, especially the first one!

Excellent work Herb.

Thanks Keith. Yes, the river certainly added to the scene here and the whole spectacle was marvelous. The PiP here (simply the photo on the last page) is the normal view of this waterfall. Very happy that you liked them.

Delighted that you enjoyed this and perhaps it was worth the wait for you. As you said elsewhere, a waterfall worth seeing for sure.
Of course your two falls here are also spectacular and well portrayed here.

I know that you would have enjoyed this walk armed especially with your tripod and ND filters. Not quite as spectacular as NZ but eh - it is getting there!

Waterfalls are something I have never attempted. Not that I know for many! Very difficult to get right, by some of the efforts I have seen, but these three are superb. Well done!
Take care, Rosa.

Once you have taken one, they are simple to take. Only if you want to add the 'silk' effect does it get more difficult sometimes, needing then a tripod for the slower speeds. Delighted that you enjoyed these. In fact I more yet to post! Hope its not over-kill.

Best wishes, Herb
