The windmills of Rhodes

The windmills of Rhodes
Also known as 'The Windmills of Mandraki'. That is because, just to the left is the ancient harbour of Mandraki where at its entrance, once stood the 'Colossus of Rhodes', one of the old Wonders of the World. These old mills once ground the grain that entered here from the myriad of merchant ships. ~ Quite a different view from the floodlit night-time one. See pips.

We also see in the background one of the Rhodes lighthouses.

Good full size.

Yes, we have all seen this view in our magazines etc over the years Amelia. A thrill to walk up to them though. I am not used to seeing skies like this over here in NW England. Thanks for the call and words. ~ Herb

They did almost not change, only the colors of the roofs.

Ah I presume you are comparing these with my friend Steve Paxton's picture and yes you are right, almost perfectly the same, only a more modern roof.

I must be in the minority, because I've never seen a photo of these windmills before (except for your night time shot the other day). I think they are really wonderful..!!

The stonework is lovely and I really like the colour of the roofs. It must be quite unusual to have three mills in a row! They're much more attractive in daytime.

Good to see another nighttime shot (with moon) in the PiP and I like the shadows too.

Ah, another visit to these windmills for you Keith. I think I have most combinations here now. As usual, I am always gratified with your comments. When I do visit places like this, I always think that it will be most unlikely to ever get there again and so take what I can with the olde camera box. Good that you enjoyed the extra night shot with the big shadows too.

Thanks a lot Janet. A fine and yes 'Cool' place to visit and capture. Yes, Steve and I have trod some of the same steps although we live a World away. Always good to share my photos and personal views with my Ipernity friends here and I don't mind if they really want to share the photo space too. His slide is remarkably current.

Keep well, Herb
