Mykonos: Little Venice

Mykonos: Little Venice
In the thirteenth century the Republic of Venice took control of the island of Mykonos. A Venetian town was constructed on a small headland and later, small houses were built on the edge of a low cliff. This is what we see here. They probably did not have as many balconies as they have today. "Little Venice" is known for its many restaurants and shops. Lots of fish live in the seas here, and this local is clearly taking advantage of that, seemingly oblivious to the mass of tourist running past him towards the beckoning windmills.

HaHa, he does look a bit like he has just come from the 60's. I have this same scene in better ligting without the fisherman but he does seem to add that certain something!

Excellent capture, I went fishing for many-many years Herb. I'm to old for it now though ;-)

Thanks John. I never knew there was an age limit on fishing but I guess you know best as I never did it.

WOW! I really love this picture--the row of houses is so colorful and cool! The fisherman is busy and has such a look of concentration on his face. Nice timing. I also loved reading about this place. I'd love to go some day, sounds fantastic!

Thanks a lot Janet. It is always nice to see you here with your considered comments. Yes, no amount of tourist toting camera's were going to disturb him. In the original, he is completely in shadow and so I used HDR in order to bring him out -hence the slight blurriness on him. The info -well you are yourself the queen of descriptions my friend :)

An interesting scene, with the buildings right onto the water. The relaxed fisherman has probably seen so many tourists they're of less interest than what his line may be doing, but he makes a great foreground.

I am sure you are right George -he seemed oblivious to the milling throngs here and I must agree that I like him in the foreground too.

Sure is Keith, especially, if you realise that I am stood on a narrow path passing only a foot or so from his standing position and I was being jostled by other tourist as I took this. Cool for sure.
