Caudebec-en-caux, Église Notre-Dame

Caudebec-en-caux, Église Notre-Dame
Built in the 15/16th century, King Henry IV of France declared that this church was the most beautiful in the Kingdom. Walking both outside and in, I must admit that he was probably right.

See PiPs

Nouchetdu38, Andy Rodker, , Annemarie and 4 other people have particularly liked this photo

This is a very impressive building...........but I don't see it as particularly beautiful - it's all a bit pointy and angular for my taste. That said, you've captured it in fantastic detail and it looks great against the blue sky.

Hi Keith and thanks for another visit. There are now two PiPs to accompany this and with those you may change your mind to its true beauty. However, even if you don't I much appreciate your visit and generous comment here.
Cheers, Herb

Late gothic, never heard from this place. I think the best are the Sainte Chapelle and the church of Chartres.

What a building! Great PiP's Herb. I would call it a handsome building. The inside is impressive.

Thanks a lot Rosa. Very happy that you like this. I do have more photos supporting the internal beauty but perhaps there is a limit of how far I should go with this.

Best Wishes, Herb

Looks like a good one to visit to make up ones own mind, but I'm sure that King Henry IV knew what he was talking about ~ You certainly caught it on a good day Herb :~)

Nice to see you again Nick. In truth this was not perhaps the most impressive view. I imagine at the time of only surrounding fields and the nearby river Seine the front view of the whole would have been most grand. yes here the blue skies caught up with us.

Hi Herb,

Certainly a very nice picture, and great detail in the stonework. As a bonus the sun was shining!

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I think the inside of Notre Damme in Paris wins.. www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/46270938 .

That said, the photography is impressive!

Best wishes

Great to see you and your thoughts again Peter. You are right about the beauty in the eye of the beholder. I too have visited the great Paris Notre Damme, at least twice (before digital) and in fairness cannot doubt your conclusion. Thanks for your link on which I shall now travel.
