A terrific shot Ronald. I have never seen a moth like this before. It looks huge and I love the colour. what a thoughtful thing to do putting that film on your window to stopo the birds hurting themselves.

Either this or, more likely, something very similar is the largest European moth. My reference books are all in Cornwall and I won't google it until later this evening. So hopefully some clarification later on.

Thanks, Andy. The Wikipedia article on this moth says: "Typically, it has a wingspan of roughly 114 mm (4.5 in), but can exceed 178 mm (7.0 in), making it one of the larger moths in North America."

I was called away and came back tonight to look it up and I find you beat me to it!
I have doubts now about it's presence in Europe so I will definitely look for the answer to it's range!
