Thank you, Maurice. There are thousands of the sandhill cranes in this refuge. There are only a few of the whooping cranes in the world, and there is a breeding program for them in Wisconsin.

Thanks a lot, Betty Jo. There are thousands of sandhills and several whoopers (Maybe a dozen, I forget what I was told) at Wheeler now.

Certainly so. There are thousands of sandhill cranes here every winter, but only a hand full of whooping cranes, and they are usually far away. I was lucky to see them next to each other. I also saw and heard two whoopers doing their pair-bonding whoop and dance (but no photos of that).
