Blick in den Hofgarten - View into the court garden

The Würzburg Residence (UNESCO World Heritage) served as a additional residence of the Würzburg prince bishops until the dissolution of the ecclesiastical territories through secularization. The prince bishop had this beautiful garden in view from his apartment. In the foreground the group of figures "Robbery of Europa", then follows a fountain, further back one recognizes another group of figures, namely "Robbery of Proserpina". In 1803, the"Reichsdeputationshauptschluss" ended the reign of the prince-bishops and the Würzburg Residenz became (until today) a Bavarian palace and open to the public. The people of Würzburg love "their" magnificent court garden and often use it for long walks.
