The saga with my eyes continues. I was filling in a health questionnaire prior to my appointment a week from Monday, when I noted that the hospital listed on the letter is not the one offered me over the phone. Instead of being 3 miles away, this one is almost 20 miles away. I won’t be able to drive, nobody I know lives near to give me a lift, and it would take over an hour, each way, by train at goodness knows what cost. I phoned the ‘helpline’ and found the person to be very unhelpful, stated the discrepancy, and she confirmed it’s as per the letter heading. They further stated if I don’t take the appointment, I have to start the referral process all over. I thanked her, and went over to the optician, explained what’s happened, and she made some phone calls. I’m booked in at the nearby main hospital; the hospital I was offered on the phone don’t even do eye surgeries! I know the accent here is a little tricky, however no way did I confuse the hospital names, they don’t even sound the same, and I asked if it was the hospital on the A nn road, which the woman confirmed. Somebody got their wires crossed and I’m sure it wasn’t me!

The real bugbear is, I’ve been sent to the back of the waiting list because I turned down the initial appointment, and now have to wait until freaking July. I’m not a happy camper and I’m genuinely concerned that by then, I won’t have any useful vision in that eye. To add to my concern, I was wakened Tuesday night with excruciating pain in the same eye, and Wednesday, could barely see. My eye is all pink, sensitive to light, and I feel Like I’ve been smacked in the eye. If it happens again, the optician says I must go to them and have it triaged. She wanted to do it today (Thursday) however I’m picking my son up later and wouldn’t be able to drive. I’m hoping I’ll have the surgery not long after the appointment which would be in the university holidays; I won’t need to be my son’s taxi then, that’s the only plus side that I can see in all this palaver.

In other news I did some cooking today and baked a small ham joint, nice, and a plum cake, average and a bit dry. My son has had his eye on this recipe for a while now, but I don’t think he’ll be that enamoured with it. It might be good with custard…

Yet another idiot has driven the wrong way up our street, at speed. It’s an accident waiting to happen. Whilst waiting to cross the main road, I saw a car try to get onto the wrong carriageway of the dual carriageway. There are No Entry signs, but they clearly didn’t see them, and had to swiftly reverse out due to oncoming traffic. I just stood and watched, gob-smacked. I seriously wonder how many drivers around here actually have a licence.

The sun has been out, the temperature is warming up a little, and the rigging is full of laundry. Do I small spring in the air?
