Flag End!

14 May 2026 25 50 59
The flag has not fared well and appears to have faced many a stiff breeze, the dog appears more interested in the out of shot food van, while his owners enjoy an ice cream and take in the view!, Captured on a warm early April day on the Somerset Coast at Watchet, The sign writing on the far quay is a quote from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge which was written here! and first published in 1798. HFF and a good weekend!,,,,, Better large perhaps !

Quayside Market

14 Apr 2026 25 46 257
Another image looking across the marina from the East Quay this time to the colourful market stalls on the Southern quayside at Watchet on the Somerset Coast! The long retired lifeboat in center of the image is possibly an ex RNLI Liverpool class boat from around 1939, although this is not conclusive, any information would be welcome! HWW! To all,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Large for detail!

12 Oct 2025 22 47 358

Blue Bay Day

30 Sep 2025 28 47 433
Bridgwater Bay Lifeboat and BARB Rescue Hovercraft jetty at Burnham on Sea, Captured in 16.9 large view if possible please! and four added notes! The bay is part of the Bristol Channel, at low tide large parts of the channel become mud flats and sand banks due to the large tidal range of 43 ft (13 m) Some tides come in so fast they are preceded by a large wave called a Bore, these are present on about 130 days in the year and they make a spectacular sight as it travels many miles up the River Parrett, HWW to all!

Sea Defence

15 Sep 2025 23 38 501
Another section of this large mural on the sea wall in Mural Yard, Watchet, on the Somerset Coast! The whole painted wall is 45 meters long and was painted in 2016 by Pat Denis The idea was to present items from the towns rich sea faring history Other segments previously posted Here, Heritage Mural And Here! Off the Wall Sadly on a recent visit, it was clear the the sun has taken its toll and the mural has faded badly, soon only photographs will remain!

A look forward to Summer,

Boats await the return of the tide, which has left for a few hours, HFF and a nice weekend Porlock Weir on the Somerset Coast, (Where Exmoor meets the Sea) Large perhaps! Awful weather down here in the South West, with no chance of a New Year image for a while yet!

Bay at Sundown!

11 Sep 2024 46 61 1105
By the number of images I post from here many will have deduced this is close to home! Yet another shot from Bridgwater Bay his time from the Esplanade at Burnham on Sea, The island behind the lower lighthouse is Steep Holm, A protected bird habitat. With the landscape of South Wales on the Horizon. In 16.9 therefor a larger view will be better!

Evening Light.

25 Aug 2024 34 70 571
Early May and the planters wait for their spring flowers, while holiday makers stroll the promanade and enjoy the early season sunshine, A few drinkers at the Reeds Arms one of J D Weatherspoons many public houses. Burnham on Sea, Bridgwater Bay, Somerset, It really needs a large view for the details. HBM!

05 Mar 2024 44 69 542
When the tide goes out in the Bristol Channel ! It really does go out, Watchet harbour on the Somerset Coast. HWW to one and all, a large add a little interest

On the Beach

03 Mar 2024 47 73 675
Just managed to squeeze a bench or two into this image from the beach at Porlock Weir, Somerset. Note the tall Chimneys, which are built tall in an attempt to cure downdraught caused by winds off of the sea and the higher ground in the backdrop! HBM and a good week to all!

Lunch at the Bottom Ship (pip)

29 Oct 2023 52 82 532
An image from May 2012, This is the Bottom Ship Inn at Porlock Weir on the Somerset Coast, (The Top Ship Inn is up the road in Porlock Village) Benches galore outside this 13th century coaching Inn The pip gives a flavour of the Weir at low tide For the musical link a Somerset song from the late great Adge Cutler www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWauJ-pSaBk HBM and a good week!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Large View if possible please!

Shoreline Tree

18 Mar 2023 26 29 487
This is the edge of Bridgwater Bay with the island of Steep Holm on the left and the tip of Brean Down on the right, This hardy tree does well to withstand the storms and gales that blow in off of the Atlantic and up through the Bristol Channel, A generally gloomy day with short spells of nice light, it did however stay dry, so we managed a decent walk, Large for the best view, I think.

Breakwater in Winter

28 Dec 2022 47 68 541
It's late on a December afternoon as the weak winter sun drops through the mists of Exmoor and catches the battered breakwater at Watchet on the Somerset coast, In my opinion, it's better viewed large, HFF and a Happy New Year to all

Survivor.

14 Nov 2022 26 36 583
Built into a pebble wall at Ferrices Farm, Steart on the Somerset coast, this Post Box has withstood the salty air of the Bristol Channel and Atlantic storms since the reign of Queen Victoria, 1837 -1901. (Seven Monarchs) Postmen have collected mail from this box in all weathers for at least 120 years, mail would have been transported to the nearest town of Bridgwater by foot or horseback when it was installed (experiments with motor transport for mail only started nationally in 1897) Think of the national and world events that have occurred since the box was installed World wars, The Titanic sinking, Votes for Women, Talking Films, the list is endless. My Tuesday post box offering,

Sunset Bay

06 Mar 2022 37 48 799
Patterns on the beach as a gentle evening tide arrives at Blue Anchor Bay on the Somerset coast. Minehead and North Hill as Exmoor meets the sea in the distance.

Coastal Grey Day

13 Feb 2022 40 52 639
Another grey day on Bridgwater Bay, It feels like it has been this way for ages however on this particular day the light was amazing (but still grey), I think the light must have fooled the sensor as I'm sure the grass was not quite that green ;-)) Large if you prefer. I wish everyone a good week.

Porlock Bay, HFF

27 May 2021 68 99 869
Exmoor meets the sea from the top of Porlock Toll Road, The never ending battle to hold back the waves was abandoned in 2001when the sea defences were opened to allow the sea to create a salt marsh here, Bossington beach curves around to the headland and the South Wales coast is in the far distance. In 16.9 format so a large view is recommended.
