Tower hotel 35/50: Panorama

Tower hotel 35/50: Panorama
Here it finally comes: An overall view of the tower hotel I've been shooting during this year. I have tried several stitched panoramas with several cameras, and somewhat gave up. Then the "help" came from very surprising direction. I've been using Google Images service as a backup storage for my Android mobile phone camera shots, and they do give also automatic image enhancing services. Every now and then I get notices about them on my email, and usually I just ignore those messages. But this time Google did rather nice job with a series of vertical images I had taken with my phone camera. Not perfect, but surprisingly good. buildings are a little crooked, stitches are not perfect and the top of the tower is arched instead of being straight as in reality. But the main purpose becomes well fulfilled: The picture shows how the old roundhouses and office building are combined with the tower standing behind them. The conference rooms, restaurant and reception are in the old buildings, and hotel rooms and top floor bar in the high tower.

Fred Fouarge, Annemarie, Heidiho, niraK68 and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thank you for the recommendation, Steve! =)

Looks amazing, especially because it gives software also for "little planet" images etc. However, it is way too expensive for my use. I usually am satisfied with what my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 can do on camera:

Touch his toe for good luck...

But this time was really extraordinary and rare. The only place where I was able to shoot images for this panorama was approximately 20 meters away from the facade. Behind me there are railway tracks, trains and power lines. And therefore the shot taken with 24mm lenses had to be taken upwards. That then makes most of the stitching software berserk.

However, I do have another crazy idea in mind, which you may see later ;-)

No I haven't. I know Hugin though, read about it several years ago. Maybe I should give it a try. There's a freeware that runs also on Linux!

The inaccurate stitching adds a pleasantly surreal air.

Thank you, John =)

And that is exactly the idea I am planning to do later on ;-)

Hi Sami

Very nice tower thrusting up into the sky!
I like it very much!!

There is no great and foolproof way to stitch a lot of pictures together. The perspective in each one is different, and no amount of transformation will make them match.
You have done a great job as it is!!

Best Wishes and a good weekend.

Danke schön, Ruesterstaude.

Interesting thing is that there don't even seem to be a direct tool to start the process by Google Images user. So, it indeed came totally unexpected.
