In the churchyard at this village is a sarsen stone that used to stand on top of the hill. It is reputed to be Egbert's Stone - Alfred the Great's secret rallying point for the Wessex troops to gather before defeating the Danes at the Battle of Edington (without which I would be teaching Danish instead of English!!!)
