Superb!
In the churchyard at this village is a sarsen stone that used to stand on top of the hill. It is reputed to be Egbert's Stone - Alfred the Great's secret rallying point for the Wessex troops to gather before defeating the Danes at the Battle of Edington (without which I would be teaching Danish instead of English!!!)

I would like to stop at the church sometime soon Andy and have a good look around. I read a novel called "Ferney" by James Long a few years ago, which had a lot of history about this area and Pen Selwood, which was really interesting and got me digging in to the King Alfred connections.
