Am Bielersee bei Hagneck.

(★ Klar, es heisst: beaver) ;-)

Biber (Castoridae) sind höhere Säugetiere (Eutheria) und gehören zur Ordnung der Nagetiere (Rodentia). Sie sind die zweitgrössten lebenden Nagetiere der Erde, nach den Capybaras.
Die Familie besteht heute aus einer einzigen Gattung (Castor), die sich in zwei Arten aufteilt: den Europäischen Biber (Castor fiber), auch Eurasischer Biber genannt, und den Kanadischen Biber (Castor canadensis). Der europäische Biber ist in Europa durch die FFH-Richtlinie (Fauna Flora Habitat) besonders geschützt. Er unterliegt in Deutschland nicht dem Jagdrecht nach dem Bundesjagdgesetz.

Uli, nee, weiss von nichts. Vielleicht habe ich es verpennt. :-)
Naja, wenn ich unseren Klimatologen und Meteorologen glauben kann, werden sich solche extreme Wetterphänomene in Zukunft eher häufen. Wir hatten in diesem Januar gerade mal 4 Kältetage (Tage mit Temp. unter 0°C). Im 25 jährigen Mittel sind es über 20!

Daniela, ja, das ist in der Tat so! An einigen Stellen müssen die Bäume entlang von Fluss- und Seeufern mit Drahtgeflechten gegen die Biber geschützt werden.

Uli, tja, ist halt die Natur. Ich glaube, der Mensch macht mehr und vor allem gründlicher kaputt. :-|
Aber wo es zuviel wird, werden die Bäume mit Drahtgeflechten geschützt (siehe Antwort oben an Daniela).

We have one that's been at our pond too but I haven't been able to get any pics of him although he's managed to take some trees down so we know he's there.

:-)) In German "Bieber" means the same as "beaver" in English. So you can do wordplays with Justin B. I don't know, if he know that. ;-))

Oh, that's hilarious and works so well. :D

I love your info on them. I remember researching them a couple of years ago and they are so fascinating. I was surprised at how they can really bring life to an area by building their damns.

Karen, close to me there is a nature reserve. And there lives a beaver who has built a really gigantic building! Unfortunately it is not possible to photograph it properly from the shore, but it is huge.

Ich kannte mal einen Bisamrattenjäger. Der hat den Bestand der Tiere in Waage gehalten und sie zu Mäntel und Mützen verarbeitet... :-)

Sami, what is Bibergeil? Literally translated this means "beaver horny". ;-))

In German we say "affengeil" (monkey horny) to something that is really really cool. Whereby the word "horny" actually no longer has its original meaning.

Sami, in the German Wikipedia article is said that the beaver the "content of castor sacs" also needs for the care of his fur. Justin obviously copied that, he also rubs something in his hair. But don't ask me what, and where he got it. ;-)))
