A Happy Fence Friday to all. I hope the day is fine and the weekend lets you recover from the working week (if you have such a thing, of course).

Dome

This picture and the two previous photographs are of the same place (the "Light Event" installation by Rebecca Baumann in the abandoned Carillon City mall in Perth). You will notice, however, that the colour cast is slightly different in each photo. This is because of the changes in the light coming through the dome as the sun moves or hides behind clouds. Interestingly, when one is physically in the space the colour cast is far less apparent.

Light

28 Feb 2024 13 5 171
The pink colour in this photograph is produced by daylight shining through the dome at the top of the space. This building is the old Carillon City shopping mall in the centre of Perth which closed in 2021 and will soon be demolished. For the Perth Festival in 2024 Rebecca Baumann created “Light Event” in the three storey glass atrium which once led down these staircases to the food hall. The colour comes from dichroic film applied to the atrium windows. During the day the colour changes as the sun moves. I have many fond memories of this place over the years … (Big is infinitely better: please press Z.)

Kitchen

(Press Z, please.) This is part of the "Wetlands" installation by Linda Tegg and Vivienne Hansen in the abandoned Carillon City mall in Perth. The food court which once existed in the basement of the mall has been flooded and then planted with edible and medicinal plants. A walkway has been constructed which runs through the mall, passing the previous kitchens and food outlets.

A Happy Fence Friday to one and all. I hope your day is calm and your weekend peaceful. (I think this picture is better bigger Please press Z to check whether I am correct.)

Valentine

She (Who Must Be Obeyed) tells me this looks appropriate for St Valentine's Day. Since she (obviously) must be obeyed I've acquiesced to her wishes, despite my habitual grumpiness when faced with such sentimental things. Far nicer than cut flowers or expensive tasteless chocolates, too. There are very many swans on the river and in the inlet at the moment, it being the very hot season of Bunuru when food in the lakes and rivers is plentiful. A few more weeks and the swans will mainly disperse to other waters as Djeran (autumn) arrives in late March, though for some reason the odd swan will remain.

Happy Wednesday Wall. Have a great day, everyone.

Jetty

A Happy Fence Friday to everyone. I hope your day and your weekend are both wonderful. This jetty is in Mandjar Bay which is the centre of old Mandurah. It is used for the boats which take tourists round the canals and into the Peel Inlet which lies just outside the city. This inlet is a vast expanse of water, though it is quite shallow.

A Happy Fence Friday to everyone. I hope your day and weekend are full of fun and frolics. These beach huts are in Bridlington, Yorkshire. I find these examples a little disturbing somehow. I've always felt that the "beach hut" concept was a communal idea: yes, the huts offered privacy for families on their holidays, sometimes even having rudimentary cooking facilities and tables to sit and have a cuppa, but they never seemed to be walled off from each other and often people would visit their neighbours quite freely. These fences seem the antithesis of that communality. Or maybe that's just me being nostalgic for something that wasn't actually the case - anemoia. Whatever, have a grand day.

Rest

A Happy Bench Monday to all. These seats at the Busselton Jetty are apparently made from plastic bags! I know nothing about the whys and wherefores of this, about how such things are done, or whether someone scours the waste bins of the nation for discarded bags. But I welcome something being done with the curséd things! Have a lovely Monday and I hope the week is not too onerous. (And good luck to all who are suffering storms in Europe and freezing cold in the USA. Meanwhile some of us in the Land Down Under are roasting.)
