Robert Cecil memorial

In St Etheldreda's church, Hatfield, is the tomb of Robert Cecil, First Earl of Salisbury (1563--1612). This incredible monument is a cadaver tomb, with the effigy of Robert on the top level, and his cadaver on the lower level from which this is a detail. The tomb was carved by Maximillian Colt, a Flemish sculptor who settled in England and became the King's Master Carver.
